This week for Spotlight Friday we interviewed Erica Thimsen of Helping Hand Parties and Weddings.
Wedit: How did you get your start in the Event Planning Industry?
Erica: To entertain myself and the island, I started planning lots of events while we were living on a tiny island in the Marshall Islands for 10 years and turned that into my business after moving to Alabama 12 years ago.
Wedit: What is your favorite part of the industry?
Erica: I love planning all events but weddings are my favorite. Taking my couple’s vision and turning that into a beautiful day full of fun, love, and laughter is so rewarding.
Wedit: What are your favorite wedding trends this year?
Erica: I’m seeing more emphasis on making the reception fun and memorable for their guests by adding surprise elements and unique vendors.
Wedit: What is the biggest change you have seen since the start of your career?
Erica: The biggest change for me has been a decrease in couples having cocktail hours and choosing to go straight from the wedding to the reception leaving more time for eating, dancing, special activities, and surprise late-night snacks.
Wedit: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Erica: Stay in your lane. Find out what you love and do best and just do that. Don’t try to be a jack of all trades in your industry.
