Spotlight Friday with Dortheea of Kamea Events

This week I had the pleasure of talking with Dorotheea of Kamea Events.

Wedit: How did you get your start in the Event Planning Industry?

Dorotheea: I worked as an Executive Assistant at a major hospital in our area prior to starting my business, and as part of my job, I was in charge of planning events for the Department of Surgery. I love organizing and planning and hosting in general, so it felt like the most natural transition to move into the wedding industry where, along with my ability to execute events, I was able to exercise my creativity and make them beautiful.

Wedit: What is your favorite part of the industry?

Dorotheea: My favorite part of the industry is the ever-changing challenge of designing innovative weddings & elopements. Trends are constantly shifting in our field, so being able to design & style something that has never been seen before is a huge driver.

Wedit: What are your favorite wedding trends this year?

Dorotheea: Hanging installations became really popular in the last year, but they aren’t going anywhere soon! I love dreaming up different types of installations that are sure to be a showstopper. I’m also really fond of mono-bloom creations. They are such a high impact on the overall design of an event.

Wedit: What is the biggest change you have seen since the start of your career?

Dorotheea: The biggest change I’ve seen since I began my business has been the growing popularity of elopements vs having a traditional wedding. I love it.

Wedit: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Dorotheea: The biggest piece of advice that has stuck with me since I started my business has been, “What I have isn’t for everyone, but it is for someone”. It has reminded me to stay true to my style and who I am. I can’t please everyone all the time, but when the right client comes along who really clicks with what I have to offer, it truly is magic.
