Favorite Things With Christina Burton of Christina Burton Events

We talked about hour favorite things with christina burton

Her favorite thing about event planning and business is that, “There are no rules for a reason, so throw away the tradition and go with what you love.” Christina Burton.

How did you get your start in the Event Planning Industry?

Christina: In college I thought I wanted to be an interior designer after school, but it just didn’t seem to be the right fit. So after evaluating my strengths, I determined that I wanted to try out event planning. As a 19 year old, the only types of events I could think of that had planners were weddings, so after reaching out to several wedding planners in my area, I found one that gave me an internship for that summer. It was the perfect fit, and she generously allowed me to take on weddings as the lead planner the following year. After graduating I kept doing wedding planning on the side, but took a full time position doing first non profit events, then corporate events.

Three years into my career in corporate events, I transitioned to work for a small business that did event planning for events of all types. It was there that I found my love for the small business world, but after several years, I realized that I had my own passions for entrepreneurship, so I finally launched my own event planning company specializing in weddings.

What is your favorite part of the industry?

Christina: I love the relationships I’ve been able to form through the event industry! When my husband and I moved to a new state, the industry was a great platform for me to meet people and make new friends. I’ve always found great friendships through fellow vendors.

What are your favorite wedding trends this year?

Christina: I love that color is making a comeback! After having several years with a lot of greenery and white, I’m beginning to see more colors being incorporated once again and I’m so excited for it.

What is the biggest change you have seen since the start of your career?

Christina: Over the ten years I’ve been in the industry, I’ve seen a big progression in guest experience creation. Instead of weddings just being one evening, there are now entire weekends of events planned so that guests coming from out of town can really get a feel for the area and get to spend more time with the couple. I absolutely love this and think it’s just such a fun transition, and it’s sweet to see how much couples care for those coming to celebrate with them.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Christina: You do you. Whether it be for planning an event or running a business, it’s so easy to constantly have ideas thrown your way from every direction, making you feel like you have to do things like everyone else. But events and business are just so much more fun when your unique spin is put on it. There are no rules for a reason, so throw away the tradition and go with what you love.
