It was great interviewing Event Extradoniare Lauren Taylor of Creative Solutions Special Events.
Wedit: How did you get your start in the Event Planning Industry?
Lauren: After I received a degree in Brand Management and Marketing from North Carolina State University, I moved to New York City to peruse a career in fashion. I worked for a bit as a Sales Analyst crunching numbers for a small jewelry company and realized quickly that I missed my favorite part of what I learned and implemented into many projects in school – designing events that elevated a brand. Events were where I felt my creativity thrive most and where I saw my career trajectory headed.
I transitioned into a position handling events for a catering company and loved it but knew I wanted a little more, so when I moved back to my home state of North Carolina I jumped straight into searching for wedding planning positions. To my luck, I landed a job in a family-owned, small business that gives me the opportunity to work with clients from the very beginning stages. Creative Solutions has made me a part of the family and I finally LOVE what I do!
Wedit: What is your favorite part of the industry?
Lauren: The traditions. Even though weddings have changed a lot since my parents were married, there are still so many traditions that live on. You can be a modern bride and still have touches of “old school weddings” and I just love seeing how people incorporate them into their special day.
Wedit: What are your favorite wedding trends this year?
Lauren: I am loving anything that is a bit rocker-chic, velvet linens, leather jackets, and neon signs!
Wedit: What is the biggest change you have seen since the start of your career?
Lauren: Catering has gotten more creative. People are opting for stations, family style meals, food trucks, brunch weddings, etc. and I am here for all of the new fun food ideas!
Wedit: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Lauren: We’re not saving lives. I have to remember this during high-stress months like September and October when wedding season is in FULL swing and brides are at their highest level of anxiety.
