Creating a signature cocktail for your wedding

Signature cocktails are a great way to add more of the couple’s personality to the cocktail hour and reception. They give the couple the chance to get creative with cocktails, while also giving guests the opportunity to try something new! But how do you pick a libation that aligns with your personality?

Choose two drinks

A drink from each partner ties everything together and can capture the theme of the wedding. Starting with each person’s favorite drink is a great base. Also, having two very different drinks (sweet vs. sour) accounts for guests’ tastes, too. Choosing signature beers or wines are another great idea for those who aren’t fans of liquor. Not big drinkers?  There is no reason you can’t feature a mocktail during your big day!

Simple doesn’t mean boring

So, what if your significant other sticks to standards like Vodka Soda?  It’s a classic drink, but it doesn’t exactly scream celebratory.  You can always add a garnish or muddled herbs to add some interest.  But if you’re a stickler for simplicity, don’t mess with the recipe and instead focus on the presentation.

Complement the theme

This is more about form than function. The same drink can be served at two very different weddings and look totally different. For example, weddings that enjoy a rustic vibe, like barn weddings, can opt to serve drinks in mason jars for a more casual appearance. Serve that same drink in a martini glass with an elaborate garnish, and it’ll fit in perfectly at a fancier fete. Giving your signature cocktails creative names also helps customize the drink menu.
